Chamber To Pioneer Men's Networking Group

In 2004, The Chamber created the Working Women Alliance, a networking group where Chamber women (and sometimes men) meet monthly to network and share ideas. We would now like to offer a similar opportunity for our male chamber members. The goal is to create a group that will be recognized as a progressive and focused network of men who come together to form connections, share ideas, learn valuable strategies, celebrate camaraderie and stand together to mentor, advance and support professional men in the greater Boston area.

The group will meet once a month at the Doubletree Bedford Glen Hotel, where
over a full breakfast, members will have the opportunity to network and hear from successful business people in the area.

Manish Bhatia, GM of the Doubletree and Chamber VP Josh Cohen have volunteered to head up this new endeavor. The first meeting will be held September 16 at 7:30 AM at the Doubletree Bedford Glen. Invitations will be sent out and though there is no charge to attend, you have to RSVP.

Flatbread Company Treats the Bedford Farmers' Market on Labor Day

A free, delicious treat is in store for you at this year's Bedford Farmers' Market Labor Day event. "Taste of the Market", hosted by Flatbread Company and Brookline Bank, will feature Sean Toomey and his team from Flatbread Company who'll be cooking up several varieties of pizzas in their huge portable, wood-burning oven.  Along with samples of pizza, they'll be serving up a wonderful salad and special dessert-all made with local ingredients. Sean will present cooking demonstrations throughout the day to show you how easy it is to cook with farm-fresh products. They'll be cooking and handing out samples at the market on September 6 from 2:00-6:00 pm. The first 30 bicyclers to the market will receive $2 gift certificates good at any vendor at the BFM thanks to Charles River Wheelmen, www.crw.org.  Sponsored by Flatbread Company and Brookline Bank. For more information, visit www.bedfordmarket.org.

           FLAVORS OF BEDFORD

            NOVEMBER 14, 2010
       Doubletree Bedford Glen Hotel

                     4-6 PM

The Flavors of Bedford is an evening of elegance, fine dining and the essence of what makes Bedford a great town in which to live and work... This year, we anticipate over 400 participants at Flavors of Bedford, with extensive publicity within Bedford and surrounding communities. It will be an afternoon of entertainment mixed with networking, the beautiful music of the Lexington Symphony Orchestra, customer contact and recognition within the business and residential community. In addition, the event will be broadcast on Bedford Cable Access Television for several months, creating additional visibility and community recognition.

Although the event is a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce, we also will be donating a portion of our proceeds to "Homecoming for Heroes".  An organization that celebrates deployed soldiers and their families on their return to Hanscom.  Entertainment is provided by the Bedford High School Madrigal.

All sponsors are presented in the pre and post publicity. We also tape the show and it is aired on our local cable show.

Your sponsorship makes it possible for the Bedford Chamber of Commerce to represent commerce in town meetings, networking events, make donations to other non profits and create a corporate community in town. While we greatly value your financial contribution, we also recognize the importance of bringing a diverse group of people together for an annual celebration.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  PROGRAMMING-BRYAN MCKAY

The program committee is working on future programs to start in the fall or winter. We are looking for ideas, and volunteers to help. Tee  IT UP Golf has been a success so far.  We have been averaging about 18 golfers per week.   The only down-side is that most of the golfers come to us via the base.  Not that this is a bad thing.  However it would be nice if we could have a better showing from the Chamber members.  This is the perfect time of year as there is still plenty of daylight even for the last groups.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE- LEA ANN KNIGHT

It's been a busy month for Membership!  Our plan to highlight new businesses in town by promoting Ribbon Cutting ceremonies has been a great success.  Thanks to those Chamber members who have been able to attend one or more of these events.   They garner great publicity for the new business and provide  a chance for some informal networking at the same time.

We are also getting ready to host another quarterly New Member Meeting on June 17 at 9 am.  The meeting will be held at the offices of Garrison/Knight Financial Planning (aka The Fitch Tavern), 12 Great Road.  If you haven't attended a meeting yet, it's a great way to hear all about the opportunities for involvement in the Chamber.

And the Committee is hoping to use the slower summer months to develop our membership database capabilities - capturing additional information from current and future members.  We want to be able to pinpoint the events and services that our members are most excited about and focus on the marketing campaigns that bring in additional members.  If you would like to become more active in the chamber without committing a lot of time, this database project would be an ideal opportunity!  So be sure to let a committee member know OR come to our next committee meeting on  Thursday, June 3 at the Law Office of Brown & Brown, 110 Great Road.  We will meet from 10:30am-11:30am.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT- KEVIN LATADY

Our focus is the upcoming meeting with the town's department leaders/liaisons on June 10 to discuss ways to improve the process of bringing in businesses wanting to expand in Bedford and new businesses coming to Bedford (and how the Chamber my be able to assist in that process). The proposal for using the Economic Development money was presented to the Planning Board on May 25 (and the Selectmen discussed the allocation of money at their last meeting.)

FUNDRAISING-FATIMA MENDONCA

The Cambridge Savings Bank Senior Prom Stroll will be held next Tuesday, June 8 at 4:30 PM on the Town Common. We are also holding our start up meetings for Flavors of Bedford. We are looking for someone to be head the following- Raffle, Best of Flavors Competition, and Publicity.
