2010 Flavors of Bedford- Best Ever

This is the 9th year we have run this event and with the help of so many of you...it was by far the best! We had 24 restaurants,  28 sponsors,13 Chamber members, 12 ROTC cadets, 5 Lexington Symphony Chamber Players, 3 hungry judges and 1 very grateful Executive Director. THE GODDARD SCHOOL ANNOUNCES LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP 

     The Goddard School is calling out to all Goddard School alumni. The organization has just announced that it will be accepting applications for its annual $10,000 Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship.The scholarship is given to one Goddard School alumnus each year and helps to finance the tuition of the college or university of the student's choice."The Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship provides financial support to a graduate from The Goddard School who currently demonstrates excellent work ethic and perseverance at their high school," says Joe Schumacher, chief executive officer for Goddard Systems, Inc. "We know we have many alumni who meet the criteria and we are excited to recognize the recipient of this prestigious award."The Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of the founder of The Goddard School, an entrepreneur who started several other well-known franchise companies including Aamco Transmissions, Inc.

and Maaco Auto Painting and Bodyworks, Inc. According to Schumacher, Martino was a successful businessperson who worked his way up from humble beginnings to achieve success.

       The application deadline for the Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship is February 11, 2011. Eligible applicants can access the scholarship application on Goddard's Web site at www.goddardschool.com under the Communication tab.

The Amazing Power of Listening

Henry Ford said, "No one ever listened himself out of a job."  But it's also true that you can listen yourself into a job, or a sale, or a new client.

A Boston ad agency was preparing a presentation to try to land the account of a large utility, and they asked me to help create the materials for the presentation.  They were competing against larger ad agencies for the business. 

The big day came, the president of the ad agency took the materials we had created and left for his one-on-one meeting with the CEO of the utility.  He returned a couple of hours later, and I asked him how the presentation went.  He smiled and said, "I never made the presentation."

He explained that he began the meeting by asking the CEO some questions about his business, the problems and challenges he faced.  The CEO kept talking, and he kept listening and asking questions.  Finally, their time was up and the presentation hadn't been made, so he said, "We're out of time, but I would be happy to come back another day to present."  The CEO said, "That won't be necessary.  You've got the account."

I guess the CEO wanted someone who would take a genuine interest in his business.

It may be that two of the most powerful sales and marketing tools...are already attached to the sides of your head!  Now all you have to do is use them.

Vendors and shoppers: Hold the date for the annual St. Michael Harvest Festival and Craft Fair, featuring wares from local artisans, white elephant table, raffles, food and more, and scheduled this year in the Parish Center on Saturday, November 20.  Tables are available for rent.  Contact Kathy Clark at 781-275-6630 for more information.  Additional details will be published soon.
